That footloose Irishman, Manchán, is at it again with a forray to the lost outposts of the Silk Road. We get an insight in the history of the Baiyangou Valley of Xinjiang, China and how things are changing for the traditional Kazaks here. Historically the city was along a river of culture in Central Asia that arose along the Silk Road between Asia and Europe in ancient times. Manuscripts have been found by archeologists in as many as 16 different languages and there is evidence of numerous religions practiced here. It was truly cosmopolitan! We have a chance to share yak butter tea and bread in a multi-generational household of Kazaks and get an insight into the traditional and modern culture of Central Asia. A film by Manchán Magan, Global Nomad Films. www.manchan.com |
